Help build the infrastructure behind what’s next

Data centers are growing—and the systems that connect, protect, and support them have never been more important.

As an Electrical Estimator II at Interstates, you’ll help bring complex data center telecom and fiber projects to life. You’ll turn drawings, specifications, and project goals into clear, competitive estimates that help clients make informed decisions and give project teams a strong foundation for successful execution.

This role is about more than counting materials. You’ll help shape project strategy, identify risks early, collaborate with partners, and influence how work is planned before it reaches the field. You’ll work alongside clients, vendors, engineers, project managers, estimators, and construction teams from the earliest stages of a bid through project handoff.

If you’re an experienced estimator—or a construction professional ready to grow into a more strategic estimating role—this is an opportunity to build specialized expertise in a growing market while working with a team that values your ideas and judgment.

Why this opportunity stands out

  • Support high-impact data center telecom and fiber projects
  • Build expertise in a growing, specialized area of electrical construction
  • Influence project strategy before construction begins
  • Work with experienced teams across estimating, engineering, project management, and field operations
  • Help improve the tools, processes, and standards used across the business
  • Build relationships with clients, vendors, and project partners
  • Grow your career with a company that invests in its people

What you’ll do

  • Develop accurate, competitive estimates using Interstates’ tools and systems
  • Review drawings, specifications, bid documents, and project requirements to define scope and pricing
  • Estimate work related to data center telecom, fiber, structured cabling, pathways, and related infrastructure, as applicable
  • Analyze labor, material, equipment, subcontractor, and other project costs
  • Use historical cost data, labor units, and production information to improve estimate accuracy
  • Identify scope gaps, project risks, constructability concerns, and value opportunities
  • Clearly document assumptions, clarifications, exclusions, and decisions throughout the bid process
  • Partner with clients, vendors, engineers, project managers, and field teams to develop practical project solutions
  • Support proposal development, bid strategy, and client presentations
  • Assist with contract reviews, negotiations, and project handoff to execution teams
  • Support change orders and cost-to-complete estimates on active projects
  • Share lessons learned and contribute to more consistent estimating methods and standards

What success looks like

  • Your estimates are accurate, complete, competitive, and delivered on schedule
  • Project teams understand the scope, assumptions, and risks before work begins
  • Potential issues are identified early and communicated clearly
  • Your project handoffs help field teams start with confidence
  • Clients and internal partners value your responsiveness, accuracy, and judgment
  • You contribute ideas that improve estimating tools, processes, and consistency
  • You continue building expertise in data center telecom and fiber construction

What you bring

  • Approximately 2–3 years of electrical estimating experience or related experience in electrical construction, telecom, fiber, structured cabling, or data center work

About this role

Interstates is looking for an Electrical Estimator II to support its growing data center, telecom, and fiber construction work from the Sioux Falls office. This role sits at the intersection of estimating and project strategy—you'll develop accurate bids from drawings and specifications, but also identify scope gaps, constructability concerns, and risks that shape how projects get executed. You'll work across clients, vendors, engineers, project managers, and field teams from bid through handoff, meaning your estimates and analysis directly influence project success before crews ever break ground.

The position calls for someone with two to three years of electrical estimating or related construction experience, ideally with exposure to data center, telecom, fiber, or structured cabling work. You'll need to read drawings and specs fluently, manage multiple priorities, and communicate clearly both in writing and in person. Experience with Accubid Anywhere, Excel, and basic electrical fundamentals is preferred but not required; the company values people willing to learn and take ownership. This is a contract role based in the office with roughly 10% travel to nearby job sites.

If you're an experienced estimator looking to deepen expertise in a specialized, growing market or a construction professional ready to move into a more strategic estimating role, this offers real influence over how work gets planned and executed—not just material takeoffs. Interstates emphasizes collaboration, safety, and investing in its people, so you'd be joining a team that values your judgment and ideas.
