About this role
At The Ritz-Carlton's New Zealand property, the Executive Chef leads all kitchen operations across multiple food service areas—restaurants, banquets, room service, bars, and employee facilities—while maintaining the brand's exacting culinary and sanitation standards. You'll manage a kitchen leadership team, oversee food preparation and support functions, and personally demonstrate cooking techniques and quality standards. The role demands someone who can balance hands-on culinary work with the operational demands of a large, complex kitchen, from budget management and purchasing controls to staff scheduling and performance monitoring.
This position suits an experienced chef with a track record of opening independent food and beverage outlets who is genuinely invested in developing local talent and sourcing local ingredients. You'll need to excel at both the technical side—menu development, food quality, presentation, and compliance—and the people side, including mentoring staff, handling performance issues fairly, and fostering a collaborative team culture. Guest satisfaction and financial performance are equally important; you'll interact directly with guests to gather feedback, respond to concerns, and drive continuous improvement across all areas of responsibility.
The role requires full working rights in New Zealand and a commitment to hands-on leadership. You'll report to executive leadership, collaborate with banquet and catering departments, and serve as a visible role model for the standards and behaviors expected throughout the kitchen.
