About this role

Working on elections infrastructure at GovTech means building software that directly affects how Singapore's democratic processes function. You'll move between prototyping new technical approaches, designing system architectures, and writing production code—all while managing deployments and maintaining high reliability. Beyond the core engineering work, you'll identify opportunities to improve public systems, design solutions that navigate real-world government constraints, and advocate your ideas to other agencies. The role demands someone who can think beyond the code itself.

The Elections Department operates within GovTech's broader mission to advance Singapore's Smart Nation vision, so you're expected to take initiative in shaping what gets built, not just execute someone else's plan. You'll work with modern tools and cloud infrastructure, choosing between building and reusing solutions based on what actually delivers value. If you're more experienced, you'll also establish developer practices, lead across teams, and mentor other engineers. This is fundamentally about bringing technical capability to the public sector—solving problems that matter to society rather than chasing commercial metrics.

GovTech values demonstrated ability over credentials, clear thinking over perfect answers, and the ability to communicate solutions to your team. You'll need genuine commitment to the public good and willingness to push back when something isn't in the public interest. The work environment emphasizes rapid prototyping, ownership of outcomes, and continuous learning. The position is full-time and in-office in Singapore, with market-competitive benefits including flexible arrangements where your role permits.
