About this role

Lovejoy Veterinary Hospital & Urgent Care is building a new team from the ground up for a general practice and urgent care facility launching in Boston's North End in October 2026. This full-time Veterinary Assistant role offers the chance to be part of that foundational team, working alongside veterinarians and technicians in a hospital operating seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., with evening and rotating weekend shifts required.

The position centers on hands-on animal care and clinical support: assisting during exams, treatments, and surgeries; safely handling and restraining animals; preparing and sterilizing examination and surgical spaces; collecting lab samples; administering medications under veterinary supervision; and maintaining medical records. You'll also manage routine animal care—feeding, bathing, exercise—and communicate directly with pet owners about their animals' treatment and follow-up needs. The role demands at least one year of prior veterinary experience and competency with disinfection protocols, medication administration, and diagnostic equipment, along with the physical capability to work safely with animals.

The compensation ranges from $22 to $28 per hour based on your background and qualifications. Benefits include medical, dental, and vision coverage; a 401(k) with company match; paid time off; an employee pet discount; and a $1,000 referral bonus for bringing new hires to any of the company's 180+ partner hospitals nationwide.
