Description
Rocksteady Music School is the UK’s biggest employer of full-time, permanent musicians. We teach in-school rock and pop band lessons to primary age children. We’re a community of musicians and music-lovers, on a mission to remove barriers to music education so that no child gets left behind. We’re currently in thousands of schools in the UK, teaching over 100,000 children every week – and we’re growing fast. Join us as a band leader and your passion will inspire the next generation.
- Teach groups of primary-age children in a fun, inspiring rock and pop band format in up to 10 schools per week.
- Give children their first opportunity to learn an instrument – you’ll be teaching drums, guitar, bass, keyboard and vocals.
- Work independently as part of a remote team of band leaders, the biggest team of like-minded musicians in the UK, with the support of our central teams too.
- Be a rock and pop star role-model, empowering and supporting children in primary schools to deliver live performances at their end-of-term concerts.
- Help children develop their self-belief, resilience and wellbeing through performing in a band.
- Represent Rocksteady, building strong relationships with schools, teachers and parents.
- Be prepared for highly active days and to spend time on the road driving between schools. You’ll need to load and unload your band equipment, set-up and pack away in each location.
- To be competent on at least two of the following instruments: drums, guitar, bass, keyboard and vocals.
- The enthusiasm to learn how to teach band lessons and complete our extensive training programme before you start your timetable.
- The resilience to work in a role that provides some of your greatest moments and biggest challenges – often all in the same day!
- The confidence to be yourself at work, be proud of your uniqueness and communicate equally well with children, teachers and parents.
- The integrity to always promote the safety and well-being of children and young people.
- To be an organised, independent worker, with good time management and administration skills.
- A UK/EU driving licence and your own transport. This role requires you to use your own car to transport equipment and drive between schools.
- Full-time, salaried position.
- Work Monday – Friday, daytimes only.

- Full training in our progressive teaching methodologies.
- Comprehensive benefits package, including discounts on everyday purchases and free 24/7 GP service.
- Enhanced maternity and paternity pay.
- Celebratory staff away-days, Christmas parties and social events.
- Opportunities to work with the Rocksteady Foundation, reaching children and young people in charities and support groups across the UK.

About this role
Rocksteady Music School is looking for band leaders to teach rock and pop to primary-age children across multiple schools in the Lancashire region. You'll work full-time, visiting up to ten schools each week to lead group band lessons on drums, guitar, bass, keyboard, and vocals. The role involves hands-on work—setting up equipment, leading performances, and driving between locations—alongside building relationships with school staff and families.
No teaching experience is required; Rocksteady provides comprehensive training before you start. You'll need competence on at least two instruments, a UK/EU driving licence, and your own transport (with fuel contributions at 45p per mile). The company values musical ability and genuine enthusiasm for their mission to make music education accessible, and they actively recruit from non-traditional backgrounds. This is a permanent position starting September 2026, with a salary of £28,000–£33,000 plus a £1,500 annual performance bonus, 11+ weeks paid holiday, and benefits including enhanced parental pay and staff social events.
The work is physically active and demands independence, resilience, and strong organisational skills—you'll manage your own schedule across schools and handle equipment logistics. If you're a musician who wants to inspire children and can commit to regular travel within the region, this offers a structured entry into music education with genuine support and a clear career path.
