Who we are
About Stripe
Stripe is a financial infrastructure platform for businesses. Millions of companies, from the world’s largest enterprises to the most ambitious startups, use Stripe to accept payments, grow their revenue, and pursue new business opportunities. Our mission is to increase the GDP of the internet. We have significant work ahead, which gives you the opportunity to do important work that expands access to the global economy.
About the APAC Risk team
The APAC Risk team helps Stripe launch and grow products responsibly across a diverse and rapidly evolving region. We work closely with global and regional partners across Product, Engineering, Data Science, Operations, Partnerships, and Risk to identify emerging risks, define practical controls, and make risk decisions easier to execute at scale.
The team supports Stripe’s growth in APAC by combining deep regional context with strong analytical judgment. We assess how fraud patterns, payment methods, user behavior, market structures, and regulatory expectations vary across countries. We use those insights to build strategies that protect Stripe and the broader payments ecosystem while preserving a strong experience for legitimate users.
What you’ll do
As a Fraud Strategist on the APAC Risk team, you will be responsible for identifying and reducing transaction and merchant fraud across Stripe’s products and markets in the region. You will monitor the health of Stripe’s APAC portfolio, investigate emerging threats, and build scalable strategies that reduce losses without creating unnecessary friction for legitimate businesses.
You will work on complex and fast moving problems where the available information is often incomplete and fraud patterns evolve quickly. Your work may range from investigating an anomalous fraud trend to designing a regional control, defining a model feature, improving a manual review workflow, or shaping the risk approach for a new product, payment method, or country launch.
Responsibilities
- Monitor transaction and merchant fraud trends across APAC and investigate anomalous behavior at the merchant, account, and transaction level.
- Define, build, and maintain regional fraud health metrics. Set targets, identify material changes, and communicate the drivers of performance.
- Develop short and long term fraud strategies for APAC markets, products, and payment methods. Translate investigations into clear controls, product requirements, model improvements, and operational actions.
- Partner with Product, Engineering, Data Science, Operations, Partnerships, and other Risk teams to scope, prioritize, and deliver fraud mitigation work.
- Assess fraud risks for new country, product, and local payment method launches. Define mitigations before launch and monitor outcomes after launch.
- Balance fraud loss, user experience, operational cost, conversion, and growth when recommending or implementing controls.
- Improve and automate fraud risk workflows through data, internal tools, and agent based solutions where these can increase consistency, speed, or coverage.
- Work with users and external partners when needed to explain fraud risks, improve controls, and support a healthy payments ecosystem.
- Produce clear regional reporting for senior stakeholders, risk governance forums, and other internal audiences.
Who you are
We are looking for someone who is naturally curious, analytically strong, and comfortable making decisions in ambiguous situations. You investigate unusual patterns until you understand the underlying mechanism. You can turn data and domain context into a clear risk decision, then work across teams to make that decision operational.
You understand that effective fraud strategy is not simply about reducing losses. It requires thoughtful tradeoffs between protection, growth, user experience, and operational complexity. You communicate those tradeoffs clearly and remain open to new evidence and feedback.
Minimum requirements
- 5 or more years of relevant experience in fraud strategy, payments risk, financial services, fintech, trust and safety, data, or a related field.
- Experience investigating fraud or other risk patterns using account and transaction data.
- Strong analytical judgment and the ability to frame business decisions and tradeoffs through quantitative analysis.
- Intermediate SQL skills and experience applying SQL in a business environment.
- Experience defining metrics, assessing performance, and translating analysis into practical recommendations.
- Experience partnering with technical and operational teams such as Product, Engineering, Data Science, Operations, or Partnerships.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex risk issues to technical and nontechnical audiences.
- Demonstrated project management skills and the ability to drive execution across teams with different priorities.
- Sound decision making in ambiguous or time sensitive situations, with a willingness to learn and iterate as new evidence emerges.
- Empathy for legitimate users and an ability to balance scaled risk controls with user experience.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience with transaction fraud, merchant fraud, account takeover, or abuse in an online payments environment.
- Experience working across APAC markets or with regional payment methods and local market structures.
- Advanced SQL skills or experience with quantitative tools such as Python, R, or Stata.
- Experience partnering with machine learning or Data Science teams on model features, rules, detection, or measurement.
- Experience assessing fraud risk for new products, payment methods, or country launches.
- Experience designing risk controls, monitoring frameworks, operational workflows, or policy.
- Experience using automation, AI tools, or agent based workflows to improve risk processes.
- Experience in a fast moving environment where threats, products, and priorities change quickly.
About this role
Stripe's APAC Risk team is looking for someone to own fraud strategy across the region's diverse and rapidly evolving markets. In this role, you'll monitor transaction and merchant fraud trends, investigate emerging threats, and build scalable controls that protect Stripe and its users without unnecessarily slowing down legitimate businesses. Your work will span everything from analyzing anomalous fraud patterns to designing regional controls, defining model features, and assessing risks for new country or product launches—often with incomplete information and fast-moving threats.
The role demands strong analytical judgment and the ability to make sound decisions in ambiguous situations. You'll need to translate investigations into clear recommendations, then partner across Product, Engineering, Data Science, and Operations to execute them. Intermediate SQL skills are essential, along with experience defining metrics, assessing performance, and communicating complex risk tradeoffs to both technical and nontechnical audiences. You should be comfortable balancing fraud loss, user experience, operational cost, and growth—understanding that effective fraud strategy is never just about minimizing losses.
This is an in-office role in Singapore suited to someone with at least five years of relevant experience in fraud, payments risk, fintech, or a related field. Experience with transaction or merchant fraud in online payments, familiarity with APAC markets and local payment methods, and a track record of driving execution across teams with competing priorities will strengthen your candidacy. If you've worked with machine learning teams, designed operational workflows, or used automation to scale risk processes, those experiences are valued.
