[What you will be working on]
We are looking for a Forward-Deployed Product Lead to be embedded within the Attorney-General's Chambers to drive the modernisation of case management system
AGC is modernising its case management system, used by every officer and supporting every type of work it handles advisory, litigation, legislative drafting, prosecution and international matters. You will shape the product's direction and lead its delivery.
The platform will help officers:
-
Track their work from intake to completion, with clear status, ownership and links across divisions.
-
Review and clear work products quickly, in the tools they already use every day.
-
See workload and deadlines so supervisors can assign and prioritise with confidence.
-
Find what they need, including precedents and past work, through modern, AI-assisted search.
-
Work with external systems, such as the courts, law enforcement agencies and whole-of-government platforms.
Where you'll work
This is a hybrid, forward-deployed role based at the Attorney-General's Chambers PARKROYAL COLLECTION Pickering.
In this role, you will
-
Own the product strategy and roadmap. Turn AGC's priorities and officers' needs into a sequenced roadmap, and adjust it as evidence comes in.
-
Use metrics to drive product decisions. Define meaningful measures such as turnaround time, officer adoption and reduced manual data entry, and use them to prioritise the roadmap, assess progress and adjust course.
-
Lead the transition off the legacy platform. Plan for old and new systems running side by side, and work with delivery partners so officers can trust the data throughout.
-
Make build, buy and reuse decisions with Engineering and Design, keeping the platform modular and replaceable.
-
Partner with legal and operational leadership across divisions. Understand why processes work the way they do, and propose changes where the process, not the system, is the constraint.
-
Guide and develop the product team. Work closely with and mentor the product managers and product operations staff on the team and help AGC build its own product capability over time.
You'll thrive in this role if...
-
You have taken a legacy system through replacement before. You know the hard parts are running two systems at once, migrating data and winning over reluctant users.
-
You think in platforms, not modules. You would rather solve a common problem once for every division than build it five times.
-
You are comfortable being hands-on. You write the acceptance criteria and sit with users yourself, not only through a team.
-
You earn trust with expert users. You can hold a credible conversation with senior legal officers about how their workflows.
-
You think in outcomes. You start with what problem you are solving and how you will know it is solved.
Experience in legal, justice or other regulated domains is helpful but not essential. We value product judgement and the ability to learn a complex domain over industry background.
What you'll bring
-
8–12 years of product management experience, including owning a complex platform or enterprise system end to end.
-
Experience/Exposure in replacing or modularising a legacy system incrementally, including data migration.
-
Experience with case management, workflow or document management systems, and with integrating across systems.
-
Experience working with and holding delivery partners and vendors to account.
-
Strong facilitation and stakeholder skills with senior, specialist users.
Bonus points: experience in legal, justice or regulatory tech; exposure to AI-assisted search or information retrieval; familiarity with SharePoint or Microsoft 365 integration.
What success looks like
In your first year, you will have succeeded when:
-
The first release is live and used by officers, and there is evidence it reduced the time and effort involved in their work.
-
The platform is measured by outcomes. Leadership reviews progress through agreed measures, not only milestone dates.
-
The transition is on track. Officers can rely on data across the old and new systems, and there is a credible path to retiring the legacy platform.
-
Shared capabilities are being reused. New releases build on what was built for earlier ones, rather than each division getting its own version.
Why this role is different
This is not a greenfield build. You will be modernising a system that every officer in AGC relies on daily, while their work carries on uninterrupted.
Some problems will need strong new product capabilities. Others will need a process simplified or a policy revisited, and some will need a deliberate decision not to rebuild something at all. The platform and ways of working you establish will shape how AGC's officers work for years to come.

About this role
GovTech is seeking a Lead Product Manager to embed within the Attorney-General's Chambers and drive the modernisation of its case management system—a platform used daily by every officer across advisory, litigation, legislative drafting, prosecution and international work. This is a high-stakes, hands-on role where you'll own the product strategy and roadmap, make build-versus-buy decisions, and lead the complex transition from legacy systems while keeping the organisation's work flowing uninterrupted. Success means delivering a platform that measurably reduces officer workload, enables cross-divisional reuse, and integrates with external systems like courts and law enforcement agencies.
You'll need 8–12 years of product management experience, ideally including a legacy system replacement or modernisation where you've managed data migration and run parallel systems. Strong facilitation skills are essential—you'll partner closely with senior legal officers to understand workflows, challenge processes where needed, and earn trust as a credible advisor. Hands-on capability matters: you'll write acceptance criteria, sit with users directly, and hold delivery partners accountable. Experience with case management, workflow or document management systems is valuable, as is familiarity with regulated domains, though product judgment and learning ability are prioritised over industry background.
Based at PARKROYAL COLLECTION Pickering on a hybrid arrangement, this role offers the chance to shape how a critical government institution operates at scale. Your first-year success will be marked by a live first release that demonstrably improves officer efficiency, a measurement framework that tracks outcomes rather than just milestones, and a credible path to retiring the legacy platform while establishing reusable capabilities across divisions.
