About this role
Leading ABS's Singapore Innovation and Research Center means stewarding a regional hub that bridges cutting-edge research with real maritime industry challenges. You'll oversee the center's R&D portfolio across digitalization, shipbuilding, offshore technologies, robotics, and AI, while building and maintaining relationships across a complex ecosystem of shipowners, yards, operators, research institutions, and government bodies. The role demands that you identify emerging technology trends and industry needs, then translate those into concrete projects that align with ABS's strategic priorities and deliver tangible value to clients.
This is fundamentally a leadership and strategy position rather than a hands-on technical role. You'll manage technical teams, define project scope and partnerships, and represent ABS in industry forums and collaborative settings. Success requires the ability to navigate multiple stakeholder groups—internal technical and business teams alongside external partners—and connect innovation opportunities to practical commercial outcomes. You'll need at least 10 years in the maritime sector, a master's degree in an engineering discipline, and a demonstrated track record managing teams or strategic initiatives. Strong communication skills and genuine interest in technology development are essential; familiarity with simulation tools, robotics, and AI is advantageous but not required.
This role suits someone with deep maritime industry knowledge who has led teams or programs before and is energized by bridging research and business application. You'll be based in Singapore in an in-office setting, working full-time to establish SIRC as a center of innovation excellence for ABS.
