About this role
The University of Tennessee at Martin's Department of Anatomy & Neurobiology seeks two Research Associates to lead hands-on laboratory work across multiple research projects. You would design and execute experiments using electrophysiology, molecular and cellular techniques, imaging, and biochemical methods, then analyze and document findings with scientific rigor. This role demands independent technical execution—troubleshooting procedures, managing samples and reagents, maintaining detailed records, and producing figures and data summaries that feed into publications and grant deliverables.
The position requires a Ph.D. and three years of postdoctoral experience in biomedical or laboratory research, with demonstrated competence in experimental design, data collection, and analysis. You should have solid grounding in neurobiology, cell/molecular biology, histology, or related techniques, along with strong written and verbal communication skills and meticulous attention to detail. Compliance training and laboratory safety certification are mandatory.
Beyond bench work, you'll mentor students and junior staff in procedures and documentation, coordinate day-to-day project progress, and adapt to shifting research priorities. The role is full-time and in-office in Memphis, with occasional weekend and evening hours expected. This suits someone ready to move beyond postdoctoral training into a leadership-oriented research role with direct responsibility for project execution and team development.
