About this role
The University of Tennessee Health Sciences is seeking an Open Rank Professor to lead its Operative Dentistry Division at the College of Dentistry in Memphis. This is a dual leadership and faculty role requiring someone with a DDS/DMD, Tennessee dental licensure (or eligibility), and ideally an advanced certificate in operative dentistry, dental materials, or a related discipline. The successful candidate will need 3 to 5 years of leadership experience, a strong publication record, and demonstrated expertise in restorative and digital dentistry practices.
Your responsibilities will span strategic division leadership, curriculum oversight, and faculty mentorship. You'll develop and execute the Division's strategic plan while ensuring operative dentistry courses—from dental anatomy and materials through CAD/CAM and restorative techniques—remain contemporary, evidence-based, and competency-driven for preclinical and clinical students. A key focus will be integrating modern digital technologies, including intraoral scanning and CAD/CAM workflows, into both education and patient care. You'll mentor full-time and part-time faculty, lead calibration initiatives to build digital competency, and foster research productivity through collaborative projects and external funding efforts.
This role suits someone who combines clinical expertise with a genuine interest in advancing dental education and innovation. You'll work within a large, statewide academic health system that educates over 3,200 health professions students and operates the state's largest residency programs. Memphis offers a lower cost of living than many comparable cities, a growing medical district, and substantial cultural and recreational amenities.
