About this role
This role centers on building and delivering mental health and wellness support for medical students, residents, and fellows at the University of Tennessee at Martin's Memphis campus. You would provide individual counseling and behavioral therapy, lead group sessions and workshops on topics like stress management and suicide prevention, and help shape institutional wellness policies and programs. The work bridges direct clinical care with broader health promotion—you'll assess student needs, design evidence-based training offerings, manage wellness budgets, and collaborate with campus partners including a CARE Team focused on intervention and support.
The position calls for a master's degree in counseling, psychology, social work, or a related field, plus at least one year of experience counseling college students. You'll need to be licensed or license-eligible as a mental health provider in Tennessee within your first year. Beyond credentials, the role demands strong facilitation and communication skills, cultural competency, crisis response capability, and the creativity to develop original solutions to complex behavioral and mental health challenges. You should be comfortable working independently and as part of a team, managing multiple projects with attention to detail while staying calm under pressure.
This is a full-time in-office position in Memphis that occasionally requires evening and weekend availability. It suits someone drawn to preventive and clinical work in higher education who wants to influence wellness at an institutional level while maintaining direct contact with students facing significant stress and mental health concerns.
