About this role
The University of Tennessee Health Science Center seeks an open rank professor to establish and lead digital dentistry education across its college of dentistry. This role combines academic leadership with hands-on clinical expertise: you'll design curriculum that integrates digital workflows—from intraoral scanning and CAD/CAM milling to 3D printing and planning software—into both preclinical teaching and student clinical practice. You'll also manage equipment procurement, oversee system implementation, coordinate with IT on regulatory compliance, and train faculty on emerging tools and methods.
This position suits someone with a DDS or DMD, teaching experience, and substantive hands-on knowledge of the specific platforms the department uses: Itero, 3Shape, and PrimeScan scanners; CEREC and chairside milling systems; planning software like RealGUIDE or Simplant; and 3D printing technologies. You should be comfortable troubleshooting hardware, maintaining systems, and ideally hold advanced certification in digital dentistry. Beyond the technical scope, you'll mentor students and residents, collaborate with industry partners and other academic units, and participate in institutional committees.
The role is based in Memphis at a major academic health center that trains over 3,200 health professions students across Tennessee and operates the state's largest residency programs. You must be licensed or license-eligible to practice dentistry in Tennessee. Applicants should submit a cover letter articulating their vision for digital dental education, a CV, and three professional references.
