About this role
The University of Tennessee Health Science Center's College of Dentistry seeks a General Dentistry professor to lead didactic, pre-clinical, and clinical instruction while maintaining an active faculty practice. You would teach across multiple educational levels—dental students, dental hygiene students, and residents in the Advanced Education in General Dentistry Program—supervising clinical work in diagnostic, preventive, and restorative procedures. The role demands both pedagogical skill and clinical expertise, with responsibility for developing innovative teaching strategies and ensuring students master evidence-based practices.
Beyond the classroom and clinic, you would contribute to departmental research initiatives, mentor junior faculty and students in scholarly work, and participate in institutional committees supporting accreditation and strategic planning. Interdisciplinary collaboration is central; you would work across dental disciplines and engage in community outreach to expand access to oral health care. The position values candidates with private practice experience or advanced graduate training in General Dentistry, though prior teaching experience is preferred but not required. You'll need a DDS/DMD, eligibility for a Tennessee dental license, proficiency with electronic health records, and strong communication skills suited to a complex academic health environment.
Based in Memphis, you would join UT Health Science Center's flagship statewide institution, which educates over 3,200 health professions students and operates Tennessee's largest residency programs. The position is full-time and in-office at the Memphis location.
