About this role

At the University of Tennessee at Martin's Memphis location, this Building Maintenance Specialist role centers on hands-on carpentry and facility repairs across campus buildings. You'll inspect work sites to plan projects, then execute construction, maintenance, and renovation tasks—from framing and drywall to installing flooring, hardware, and caulking on exterior surfaces. The work ranges from small repairs to minor building additions, and you'll restore spaces to finished condition once projects wrap. You'll also use computerized maintenance software like Archibus to track work orders and coordinate with your team.

The position calls for at least two years of commercial or residential construction experience and a high school diploma. You need solid carpentry skills with hand and power tools, the ability to read blueprints, and comfort working at heights and in tight spaces. Forklift certification and experience with mechanized lifts, spray equipment, and scaffolding are valued. Basic computer literacy is required to submit work tickets through iPad and other devices.

This is a full-time, in-office role with frequent evening and weekend work, plus occasional overnight travel. It suits someone with a construction background who wants stable employment maintaining a university facility and is willing to take on varied responsibilities as needed.
