About this role

This part-time faculty position combines clinical supervision, teaching, and mentorship within a pediatric dentistry program at a major academic health center. You would oversee dental students and residents in clinical settings, develop and deliver didactic coursework, moderate seminars, and help establish clinical assessment standards aligned with American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry guidelines. The role also involves mentoring junior faculty and residents as they develop competency in patient-centered care.

The ideal candidate holds a DDS or DMD, maintains current board certification, and has experience in hospital dentistry and advanced behavior guidance techniques. While prior teaching experience is preferred, it is not required—the university supports faculty new to academia through professional development activities. You should be comfortable with electronic health records and contemporary dental techniques, with strong communication and interpersonal skills suited to an interdisciplinary clinical environment. Experience in private practice or advanced graduate training in general dentistry is valued.

This position sits within the University of Tennessee Health Sciences, a statewide public academic health system headquartered in Memphis and employing over 4,600 people. The College of Dentistry is part of a larger ecosystem spanning six health science colleges across Tennessee, making this a role embedded in significant clinical education and research infrastructure.
