About this role
At the University of Tennessee at Martin, this postdoctoral position centers on building and refining mathematical models of infectious disease dynamics within the body, with a focus on pediatric respiratory infections. You'll combine computational modeling with experimental data analysis, using parameter estimation techniques to extract biological insights from clinical and lab observations. The work directly supports an R01-funded research program and involves designing experiments, generating mechanistic hypotheses, and translating findings into peer-reviewed publications and grant proposals.
The ideal candidate holds a Ph.D. in mathematics, physics, computer science, or a closely related quantitative field, with demonstrated experience modeling viral or bacterial infections and immune responses. You'll need strong programming abilities in Python and/or Matlab, along with solid grounding in parameter estimation and data-driven approaches. Beyond technical skills, the role demands clear communication—both written and oral—to present results at lab meetings, seminars, and conferences.
This is a full-time, in-office position in Memphis that occasionally requires weekend or evening work. The role offers a structured path to develop expertise in infectious disease modeling while contributing to research with direct clinical relevance.
