About this role
This position offers an opportunity to lead a transplantation program at a major academic health center while directing clinical operations at the Methodist Transplant Institute. You would oversee surgical and medical directors and administrative leadership, with responsibility for maintaining UNOS and OPTN compliance, building community and institutional partnerships, and driving program growth. The role combines executive leadership with hands-on clinical work, particularly in complex liver transplantation including pediatric and live donor cases, alongside laparoscopic or robotic living donor nephrectomy.
The teaching and research components are substantial. You would supervise advanced practice providers, mentor general surgery residents and transplant fellows, and teach medical students. The University of Tennessee Health Science Center operates one of the state's largest residency and fellowship programs, and the endowed Transplant Research Institute actively supports clinical and translational research opportunities. This is an open rank appointment, meaning the specific academic rank (assistant, associate, or full professor) would be determined based on your qualifications and experience.
Candidates should hold board certification in general surgery, a Tennessee medical license, and completion of an ASTS-accredited abdominal transplant fellowship. Demonstrated leadership ability, strong communication skills, and proven success in building collaborative teams are essential.
