About this role
This postdoctoral position at the University of Tennessee at Martin centers on synthetic organic chemistry and drug discovery, specifically designing and synthesizing novel small-molecule inhibitors based on natural product structures for metastatic cancer treatment. You would own the full pipeline from molecule design through synthesis, purification, and characterization—using NMR, LC-MS, HPLC, and related analytical methods—while working alongside collaborators focused on biological evaluation and structure-based optimization of lead compounds.
The role demands strong hands-on expertise in multistep organic synthesis, compound characterization, and purification techniques like flash chromatography and preparative HPLC. Beyond the bench, you'll analyze data, interpret results, propose next research directions, and communicate progress regularly to your Principal Investigator and lab group. You'll also stay current with emerging methodologies in synthetic chemistry and translational cancer research, integrating new approaches into ongoing work.
This is best suited to someone with a Ph.D. in chemistry or a related field who has solid experience in organic synthesis and analytical characterization. You should be comfortable managing multiple projects simultaneously, maintaining rigorous lab records, and presenting findings clearly to both your immediate team and external collaborators. The position is full-time and in-office in Memphis.
