About this role
Supporting a medical department's operations requires someone comfortable managing competing priorities across finance, faculty coordination, and educational programs. This role serves as the administrative backbone for the Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis, handling everything from budget administration and purchase order processing to faculty hiring documentation and residency program coordination. You'd be the first point of contact for the department, working closely with the Chair, faculty, and administrative staff while maintaining databases, managing accounts through the university's financial system, and ensuring accuracy across all documentation.
The position demands strong financial acumen—you'll reconcile ledgers, commit funds, and process invoices and vouchers in DASH—paired with solid Microsoft Office skills and the ability to manage multiple software systems used by faculty and residents. Success here means balancing detail-oriented work like proofreading offer letters and maintaining equipment inventories with the interpersonal skills needed to coordinate across departments and support a residency program. You'll need at least four years of administrative experience, an associate degree with two years of work experience, or a bachelor's degree; proficiency in financial systems and Microsoft Office is essential, along with the ability to work independently while maintaining confidentiality in a healthcare environment.
