About this role
UTHSC Campus Police in Memphis is hiring two Police Sergeants to lead shifts and manage day-to-day operations across the University of Tennessee at Martin campus. You'd supervise officers, handle patrol duties, respond to incidents ranging from traffic accidents to criminal activity, and serve as the commanding presence during emergencies. The role blends hands-on law enforcement—arrests, investigations, court testimony, traffic management—with supervisory responsibilities like personnel evaluations, training oversight, and resource allocation.
This position requires three years of progressively responsible law enforcement experience (or equivalent education and experience combination), current POST certification, and the ability to pass a background investigation and firearms qualification. You'll need strong communication and problem-solving skills, working knowledge of CAD systems and relevant law, and the flexibility to work rotating shifts including weekends and evenings. Prior supervisory experience in law enforcement is preferred but not required.
The role suits someone ready to step into a leadership position within campus law enforcement who can balance direct policing duties with managing a team and supporting the broader university community.
