About this role

University of Tennessee at Martin's Memphis campus operates substantial heating and cooling infrastructure that requires hands-on expertise and vigilance. This role centers on managing high-pressure boilers and large-scale refrigeration equipment—including centrifugal chillers up to 1500 tons—that keep campus facilities operational. You'll perform daily equipment checks, water sampling across multiple loops, routine maintenance on boilers and chillers, and repairs as needed, while maintaining detailed logs and records to track system performance.

The position demands four years of direct experience operating high-pressure boilers and monitoring significant refrigeration systems, along with both a Shelby County Third Class and First Class Steam Operating license (the latter required within your first year if not held at hire). You'll need to be comfortable with physical demands—lifting up to 75 pounds and working from ladders for extended periods—and prepared for an irregular schedule that includes frequent weekends and evenings, plus on-call availability during campus emergencies. A high school diploma or GED, valid driver's license, and passing background check and drug screen are required; a First Class Refrigeration Operating license is preferred.
