About this role
You would lead the strategic development and day-to-day operations of UT Health Science Center's mobile dentistry program, serving as both clinical director and educator. The role requires building a comprehensive vision for community-based dental care aligned with the institution's public health mission, managing mobile unit logistics, coordinating multidisciplinary staffing, and cultivating partnerships across schools, nonprofits, and public health agencies throughout the region. You'll establish clinical protocols, performance metrics, and educational integration while providing direct patient care and supervising faculty, residents, students, and support staff in mobile settings.
This position suits someone with a DDS or DMD, Tennessee dental licensure (or eligibility), and demonstrated experience supervising learners in community-based clinical education. Advanced training such as an MPH or MBA, or substantial clinical leadership experience, is preferred. You'll need comfort with frequent travel to mobile sites, the physical demands of clinical work in variable environments, and the operational details of fleet and supply chain coordination. The role blends clinical practice, educational leadership, and program management.
Based in Memphis at UT Health Science Center—a major academic health institution with statewide reach and significant regional economic impact—you would join a system educating over 3,200 health professions students and operating more than 100 clinical education sites across Tennessee. Memphis offers a lower cost of living than many comparable cities, a revitalized downtown, and established cultural and medical infrastructure.
