About this role

University of Tennessee at Martin's Campus Police department is hiring two officers to patrol and secure the Memphis campus. The role centers on crime prevention through regular patrols of buildings, parking areas, and grounds, with responsibilities ranging from traffic regulation and accident investigation to responding to alarms and apprehending suspects. You'll also provide security for university events, conduct building checks, and may testify in court when required. The position demands someone comfortable with the full scope of law enforcement work—evidence preservation, arrest procedures, coordination with other agencies, and ongoing community engagement through training and outreach.

To qualify, you need at least one year of security or police experience, a high school diploma, and current eligibility under Tennessee Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) requirements, including passing a background check, physical exam, psychological evaluation, and firearms qualification. You must be a U.S. citizen at least 21 years old with a valid driver's license. The role requires P.O.S.T. certification and annual in-service training to maintain employment.

This is a full-time position with rotating shifts covering weekends and holidays. It suits someone with prior security or law enforcement background who can work flexible schedules, communicate effectively with diverse populations, and meet the physical and appearance standards set by the department.
