About this role

Photon is seeking a Database Engineer with 6–9 years of hands-on experience to design, build, and maintain database systems that underpin the company's operations. You'll work across Oracle and PL/SQL for core database development, while also designing and managing Snowflake data models and transformations. The role spans the full lifecycle: data modeling and schema design, performance optimization, security implementation, backup and disaster recovery planning, and troubleshooting production issues. You'll also own CI/CD pipeline work using Jenkins, integrating database systems with applications developed by software teams.

This is an in-office position in Galway requiring a degree in computer science or IT and a solid foundation in database design, optimization, and security practices. Beyond technical depth in Oracle and Snowflake, you'll need hands-on CI/CD experience and the ability to mentor junior developers. Experience with other database platforms (MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server) or cloud solutions (AWS RDS, Azure SQL) is a bonus, as is an Oracle certification. The role suits someone who is comfortable moving between strategic design work and operational troubleshooting, and who can communicate effectively across technical and cross-functional teams.
