About this role

At Onsemi, this role shapes the foundational architecture for next-generation power electronics systems—the kind that power vehicle electrification, industrial automation, and datacenter infrastructure. You'd own system-level decisions across the full product lifecycle, from concept through production, balancing competing demands in power delivery, thermal management, cost, safety, and manufacturability. This means deep technical ownership: defining requirements, collaborating with OEMs and internal teams to translate market needs into modular, scalable architectures, and ensuring compliance with automotive and industrial safety standards like ISO 26262.

The position demands substantial hands-on expertise in power conversion topologies (AC-DC, DC-DC), modern semiconductor technologies (SiC, GaN, Si MOSFETs), and the electrical and thermal modeling that validates them. You'll need proven leadership guiding systems engineering teams and the communication skills to distill complex technical trade-offs for both internal stakeholders and external customers. Experience architecting high-voltage power electronics in safety-critical automotive or industrial environments is essential; familiarity with functional safety processes, EMI/EMC, motor control, and OEM collaboration workflows is expected.

This is a senior technical leadership role suited to someone with roughly a decade or more in power electronics who's ready to shape product strategy and mentor teams. The San Jose location is in-office, and the salary range reflects the seniority and specialized expertise required.
