About this role
Onsemi is looking for a Principal Engineer to lead validation efforts for semiconductor and power electronics products, working across the full lifecycle from silicon bring-up through market release. You'll design comprehensive test strategies covering functional, electrical, reliability, and system-level requirements, then execute them hands-on in the lab using oscilloscopes, electronic loads, logic analyzers, and other standard instrumentation. The role demands both deep technical troubleshooting—debugging complex hardware and silicon issues—and automation skills, as you'll develop test solutions in Python, LabVIEW, or similar tools and create custom fixtures and supporting circuitry as needed.
This position suits someone with 8–12 years in semiconductor, power electronics, or hardware validation who has strong fundamentals in analog and digital circuits and genuine comfort moving between theory and hands-on lab work. You'll collaborate closely with Design, Product Engineering, Applications, Firmware, and ATE teams to analyze data, identify root causes, and drive resolution. Beyond technical execution, the role includes documenting results, presenting findings to leadership, and contributing to continuous improvement of validation methodologies across the organization.
The position is full-time, in-office in San Jose, with a base salary range of $131,100 to $222,755 depending on experience and qualifications, plus a competitive benefits package.
