About this role

CBIZ is seeking a Senior Underwriter Specialist to manage complex property and casualty accounts in their Kansas City office. You'll evaluate high-risk exposures, determine coverage terms and rates, and make binding decisions on whether to accept, modify, or decline risks. The role involves technical judgment calls—assessing financial exposure, applying appropriate ratings or endorsements, and occasionally developing custom policy language when standard terms don't fit. You'll also monitor program profitability, maintain required documentation, and may have new business production goals.

This position requires at least five years of underwriting experience, current industry licenses and certifications, and a bachelor's degree is preferred. You should be comfortable analyzing multiple competing priorities, communicating clearly across internal and external stakeholders, and working both independently and as part of a team. The work demands strong technical knowledge of underwriting guidelines alongside sound business judgment, particularly when handling the degree of uncertainty and financial risk that comes with complex accounts.
