About this role

BHE Renewables seeks an Environmental Specialist to manage regulatory compliance across the organization, with particular focus on federal energy projects and natural gas pipeline operations. You would interpret environmental laws and regulations, develop compliance documentation, and serve as the primary liaison to regulatory agencies including FERC. The role spans multiple environmental domains—from wetland and water resource permitting to endangered species protection, air quality, and waste management—requiring you to coordinate impact assessments, prepare permit applications, and conduct compliance audits across the company's substantial pipeline and storage infrastructure.

This position demands deep expertise in environmental regulation and construction mitigation, combined with strong technical writing skills for federal reports and applications. You'll need at least six years of environmental experience (or equivalent progressive work history without a bachelor's degree), proficiency with both standard business software and proprietary financial and time-tracking systems, and the ability to analyze complex data and negotiate with multiple agencies. Leadership in project management, solid math and communication skills, and attention to detail are essential.

The role is fully remote from Omaha but includes travel to remote project locations. It suits someone with a track record in environmental compliance within regulated industries—particularly energy or infrastructure—who can balance advisory responsibilities to internal departments with external agency relationships and can manage competing compliance priorities across a large, geographically dispersed operation.
