About this role

BHE Renewables is hiring engineering technicians at three levels to support MidAmerican Energy Company's electric delivery system in Council Bluffs. The role blends office and field work, with roughly equal time spent on cost estimating, design, and construction coordination alongside hands-on tasks like service location, staking, and site verification. You'll manage projects from start to finish—scheduling, budgeting, and tracking costs—while responding to customer requests and working with residential and commercial developers. The position also involves field inspections to ensure construction meets utility standards, occasional emergency response, and customer communication about scheduling and service changes.

The entry-level Engineering Tech 1 position requires an associate's degree in a technical field (civil, electrical, mechanical, construction, CAD, or electrical trade) plus two years of related experience, or a bachelor's degree. Tech 2 and Senior roles call for progressively more experience—three and five years respectively—along with increasingly strong communication and project management skills. All levels need solid analytical abilities and the capacity to juggle multiple projects at once. Occasional travel may be required depending on workload.

This is a full-time, in-office role suited to someone with a technical background who wants hands-on involvement in utility infrastructure while developing project management expertise. The work is concrete and varied, mixing design work with field problem-solving across a major Midwest utility's electric system.
