About this role
BHE Renewables is seeking a senior civil and structural engineer to lead the design of transmission and substation projects across Nevada. You would own the full scope of civil engineering work—from initial site routing and analysis through permitting and construction packages—on projects up to 230kV. This includes designing substation layouts with grading and drainage, calculating foundations and steel structures, analyzing transmission line routes, and specifying materials. You'll work with minimal supervision, making independent decisions about project feasibility and value optimization while mentoring junior staff and reviewing peer designs.
The role requires a PE license and five years of relevant experience (or eight years without licensure), with demonstrated expertise in utility-scale substation site development and transmission line design. You should be comfortable with structural analysis software, foundation design tools, and transmission engineering applications. Expect to travel up to 25% of the time throughout Nevada, including site visits that may involve walking rugged terrain at elevation. The position is fully remote but based in Las Vegas, and requires U.S. work authorization without sponsorship needs.
