About this role
Allegheny Intermediate Unit's after-school program is looking for a Group Leader to supervise and engage students in a structured environment outside regular school hours. You'll plan and run a mix of academic support, recreational, and enrichment activities—from homework help to arts and sports—while maintaining a safe, positive space where students can develop socially and emotionally. The role requires strong classroom management skills, the ability to build rapport with young people, and comfort addressing behavioral issues calmly and constructively.
Your day-to-day work includes leading activities, communicating with parents about student progress, keeping attendance records, and collaborating with other staff to ensure consistency across the program. You'll also handle logistics like organizing supplies, maintaining clean spaces, and occasionally helping with special events or field trips. The position is part-time, typically Monday through Friday after school with occasional weekend hours, at $15.45 per hour for up to 25 hours weekly.
To qualify, you'll need a high school diploma or equivalent and prior experience working with children in an educational, recreational, or childcare setting. Current Pennsylvania clearances (Act 114, Act 34, Act 151, and NSOR) are required before hire, along with a completed health form. First Aid/CPR certification is preferred but not required. The work is physically active—you'll be on your feet, bending and reaching for materials, and potentially lifting up to 35 pounds.
