About this role

BHE Renewables is seeking an Environmental Specialist to serve as a key administrative resource for its senior vice president of environment and sustainability, supporting compliance, reporting, and operational functions across a major renewable energy company. The role centers on managing confidential environmental data and records, coordinating worldwide reporting of business activities, and producing corporate and audit reports—work that accounts for roughly 40% of the position. The remaining time splits between processing invoices and expenses, fielding regulatory inquiries from agencies like the EPA, and providing administrative support including scheduling, travel coordination, and customer communication.

This position requires at least four years of administrative or secretarial experience, paired with an associate's degree in business or liberal arts (or equivalent work experience). You'll need strong written and oral communication, proficiency in Microsoft Office and standard business software, and the ability to juggle multiple priorities in a team setting. An interest in environmental work and solid analytical skills are important, as you'll be handling sensitive compliance data and responding to regulatory requests that demand accuracy and attention to detail.

The role is full-time and based in Des Moines, Iowa, working in-office for MidAmerican Energy Company, a Midwest utility serving over 1.6 million customers with a portfolio heavily weighted toward wind generation.
