About this role

BHE Renewables is seeking a Principal Engineer to lead civil and structural design for high-voltage transmission and substation projects across Nevada. This role demands deep expertise in utility infrastructure—specifically in designing substations and transmission lines at 345kV and 500kV levels, from initial site routing and analysis through permitting, construction packages, and project completion. You'll own the technical scope of complex projects, make design trade-offs to balance economy and reliability, and work independently with minimal oversight while coordinating across internal teams and external stakeholders.

The position requires a PE license and at least 15 years of specialized utility experience, with demonstrated proficiency in civil site development, structural steel design, and transmission line engineering. Beyond design work, you'll mentor junior staff, conduct peer reviews, prepare reports for executive leadership, and potentially serve as an expert witness. Travel to remote Nevada sites for field scoping and construction support is expected up to 25 percent of the time, including terrain that may be rugged and at elevation.

This is a remote-based role, though the work itself involves substantial field presence and stakeholder interaction. The company notes it may fill the position at a lower level depending on candidate qualifications. U.S. work authorization without sponsorship is required.
