BHE Pipeline Group consists of Berkshire Hathaway Energy’s interstate natural gas pipeline companies, BHE GT&S, Kern River Gas Transmission Company and Northern Natural Gas Company. Combined, BHE Pipeline Group operates approximately 21,200 miles of pipeline with a design capacity of approximately 21.1 billion cubic feet of natural gas per day, owns assets in 27 states and is an industry leader in natural gas transportation. BHE Pipeline Group also operates 22 natural gas storage facilities with a total working gas capacity of 515.6 billion cubic feet and a liquefied natural gas export, import and storage facility.About this role
BHE Renewables operates one of North America's largest natural gas pipeline systems, and this metallurgist role sits at the center of ensuring that infrastructure meets safety and integrity standards across roughly 21,200 miles of pipeline. You would support field operations through audit preparation, develop material specifications for major construction projects, coordinate third-party metallurgical testing, and lead failure investigations—working across the full spectrum from regulatory compliance to hands-on technical guidance for welding procedures and code updates.
The position demands strong expertise in pipeline welding codes (API 1104, ASME) and federal pipeline safety regulations, along with the ability to translate complex metallurgical analysis into actionable recommendations for engineering teams, safety personnel, and management. You'd also represent the company on industry committees and deliver training on code compliance, meaning communication skills matter as much as technical depth. The role offers a clear progression path: entry-level positions require an engineering degree and internship experience, mid-level roles call for one to three years in the field, and senior positions require eight or more years of related metallurgy experience.
This is an in-office position in Omaha, Nebraska, suited to someone who wants to combine deep technical metallurgy work with broader program leadership and regulatory engagement in a stable, large-scale infrastructure environment.
