About this role
Working with preschool-aged children in early intervention requires both clinical and instructional expertise. At Allegheny Intermediate Unit's Sto-Rox 2 classroom, you would assess 3- to 5-year-olds for eligibility, develop their IEPs, and deliver specially designed instruction aligned to their individual outcomes. The role blends direct teaching—managing small and large group activities in the classroom—with the administrative side of special education: screenings, formal evaluations, compliance documentation, and reevaluation reports. You'd also supervise paraprofessionals and work across specialized and community settings like preschools, childcare centers, and homes.
This position demands strong collaboration skills and the ability to navigate complex relationships with families, school staff, and external partners. You'll need to stay current with early intervention practices and regulations, manage competing priorities under pressure, and travel throughout the county. The job requires valid PA Special Education PK-8 certification; Early Childhood PK-4 certification and prior preschool experience are preferred. You'll need current clearances (Act 114, Act 34, Act 151, and NSOR) before hire.
The role is full-time on a 190-day school calendar (August to August) and based in Pittsburgh. Compensation follows the AIUEA salary scale with benefits outlined in the AIUEA benefit guide. Apply through the AIU Career Site with your cover letter, resume, certification, and transcripts.
