MidAmerican Energy Company, a Midwest utility, provides regulated electric and natural gas service to more than 1.6 million customers in Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota. The company owns and operates a portfolio of power-generating assets, approximately 61% of which is wind generation.About this role
BHE Renewables is looking for a Line Mechanic to join its operations in Adel, Iowa, performing a wide range of electrical utility work across transmission and distribution systems. This role combines hands-on fieldwork with technical responsibility: you'll install and maintain poles, transformers, conductors, and associated equipment on energized circuits of all voltages, work from heights during climbing inspections, operate specialized tools and diagnostic instruments, and handle meter installations and substation operations. The position also involves leading and training other employees, coordinating with property owners on tree trimming, and managing documentation and material accountability for each job.
The role requires a Class A CDL, CIP certification, and willingness to work on live electrical systems using hot line tools and protective equipment. You'll need to be comfortable with both the technical side—reading voltmeters and ammeters, analyzing relay data, troubleshooting service issues—and the operational demands of driving service trucks, locating underground utilities, and performing fieldwork in varying conditions. The company notes it may accept apprentices, so formal experience in electrical utility work is valued but not necessarily a prerequisite if you're entering the trade.
This is a full-time, in-office position at MidAmerican Energy Company, a major Midwest utility with significant wind generation assets. The work is hands-on and safety-critical, suited to someone who wants direct involvement in keeping electrical systems running across a four-state region.
