About this role

VetEvolve's Charlotte mixed animal practice is seeking a Lead Veterinary Assistant to step into a senior clinical support role that blends hands-on patient care with team leadership. You'd mentor and train other assistants, assist veterinarians during exams and procedures, and work directly with the Practice Manager on workflow improvements and operational consistency. This position requires someone with at least three years of veterinary assistant experience who can model high standards for patient handling, safety protocols, and client communication while managing the day-to-day clinical support needs of a busy hospital.

Beyond the core duties of restraint, instrument preparation, and medical record documentation, you'd serve as a clinical resource and point of escalation for your team, support new hire onboarding, help coordinate scheduling and coverage, and contribute to inventory and supply management. The role demands strong organizational and problem-solving skills, comfort with practice management software, and the physical capability to handle animals up to 130 pounds and work extended periods on your feet. Prior experience leading or mentoring peers is strongly preferred.

The position offers a full-time schedule (typically 35–40 hours weekly with rotating Saturdays), comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage, a 401(k) plan, paid time off, and paid holidays. Compensation is based on licensure and experience. You'll need flexibility to work all hours the practice operates and the composure to handle high-stress situations in a clinical environment.
