About this role
Human Rights Watch's Los Angeles office is looking for an experienced fundraiser and event leader to step into an Associate Director role focused on development and outreach in the Santa Monica area. You'd work three days a week in-office (with additional evening and weekend time for events) and earn between $120,000 and $122,000 annually. The position requires at least seven years of donor management and large-scale event experience, ideally paired with a background in international relations, social sciences, or communications.
Your core responsibilities would center on executing the organization's fundraising strategy alongside the Los Angeles Director, managing the local donor committee, and overseeing signature events like the annual Voices for Justice celebration. You'd also lead and mentor a direct report, handle prospect research and cultivation, manage donor records in Salesforce, and work to expand HRW's supporter base through strategic relationship-building. Success in this role hinges on strong interpersonal skills, excellent organizational abilities, and genuine commitment to human rights work—plus the capacity to juggle multiple priorities under pressure.
This is a full-time position that suits someone with proven fundraising success who wants to apply those skills to human rights advocacy at a respected international organization. You'll need valid US work authorization and should be comfortable with Salesforce and basic digital tools; experience with Marketing Cloud, Canva, or social media is a bonus.
