Description

BUILT DIFFERENT

We believe there's a better way to build. One that moves faster, thinks bigger, and gives people the ownership to challenge what's been done before. We're not here to follow the standard. We're here to set a new one. We don't believe the best work happens inside rigid boxes. People are given real ownership, real responsibility, and the space to operate beyond a title. Scope grows with impact. Responsibility grows with trust. And the people who step up help shape what comes next. We're building an organization around ownership, not hierarchy, where your influence is defined by what you take on, not what's written on your email signature.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The infrastructure is ambitious. The people behind it should be too.

We need a Mechanical Engineer who thinks from first principles, questions convention, and wants the weight of owning the outcome. Someone who can design it, stand behind it, solve for it in the field, and build the runway as they go.

WHAT YOU'LL OWN

+   Design it: Own mechanical system design end-to-end: chilled-water plants, air-cooled and direct-liquid-cooling (DLC) systems, piping, and fire protection.

+   Stamp it: Take professional responsibility for calculations, drawings, and specifications as Engineer of Record, not a reviewer of someone else's work, the author of it.

+   Build it: Stay close to construction and commissioning, catch conflicts before they become delays, and sign off only when it's actually right.

+   Challenge it: Push on cost, constructability, and third-party engineering deliverables without cutting the corners that matter.

WHAT YOU BRING

+   Active Professional Engineer (PE) license.

+   7+ years designing mechanical systems for data centers, industrial, or other mission-critical facilities.

+   Working knowledge of IMC, IPC, IECC, NFPA 13, ASME B31, and ASHRAE TC 9.9, backed by hands-on experience with chilled-water plants and liquid-cooling architectures.

+   Comfortable reading and redlining P&IDs, single-line diagrams, and construction documents without help.

+   Experience working directly with contractors, vendors, and construction teams through commissioning.

BUILT FOR THIS

If you are mission-driven, ownership-minded, drawn to hard problems, willing to challenge convention, and ready to build the playbook.

If you aren’t waiting for every answer, looking for layers of approval, leading from a distance, attached to “the way it’s always been done,” or looking for just another role.

BONUS POINTS

+   10+ years and multi-site U.S. data center delivery experience.

+   CFD or thermal-hydraulic modeling (AFT Fathom, ANSYS, or similar).

+   Background at a company that self-performs its own builds rather than relying on a GC.

+   Experience integrating with BAS/controls systems.

"People are our greatest differentiator: an environment where high performers thrive, where collaboration drives impact, and where careers are shaped by opportunity, not hierarchy."

Asher Genoot, Architect

About this role

Hut 8 is looking for a Mechanical Engineer in Miami who will own the full lifecycle of mechanical system design for data center infrastructure—from initial design through construction and commissioning. You'll take professional responsibility as Engineer of Record for chilled-water plants, liquid-cooling systems, piping, and fire protection, meaning your calculations, drawings, and specifications carry your stamp. This isn't a role where you review someone else's work; you author it, stand behind it, and stay close enough to construction to catch and resolve conflicts before they become costly delays.

The role demands a PE license and at least seven years designing mechanical systems for data centers or similarly mission-critical facilities. You'll need solid working knowledge of relevant codes and standards (IMC, IPC, IECC, NFPA 13, ASME B31, ASHRAE TC 9.9), comfort reading and redlining technical documents independently, and proven experience collaborating directly with contractors and vendors through commissioning. Hut 8 values engineers who think from first principles, push back on cost and constructability without compromising what matters, and operate with real ownership rather than waiting for approvals or deferring to "how it's always been done."

This suits someone mission-driven and willing to challenge convention—someone drawn to hard problems and comfortable building the playbook as you go. If you have 10+ years in multi-site U.S. data center delivery, experience with thermal modeling tools, or background at a company that self-performs builds, that strengthens your fit.
