Description

About Hark

Hark is an artificial intelligence company building advanced, personalized intelligence. One that is proactive, multimodal, and capable of interacting with the world through speech, text, vision, and persistent memory.

We're pairing that intelligence with next-generation hardware to create a universal interface between humans and machines. While today's AI largely operates through chat boxes and decade-old devices, Hark is focused on what comes next: agentic systems that interact naturally with people and the real world.

To get there, we're developing multimodal models and next-generation AI hardware together - designed from the ground up as a single, unified interface for a new era of intelligent systems.

About the Role

You own Hark's hardware distribution metric. That means the strategy and the execution behind getting our device into the market at scale in its first months. You'll be the central quarterback across carriers, engineering, product, and the business teams, holding the single Concept of Operations that everyone works from and rewriting it when the data says the plan isn't working. This is a high-ownership role where the target is measurable and yours.

Responsibilities

  • Distribution Target Ownership: Carry the unit sales number end to end, and own the plan that gets Hark there on the launch timeline.
  • Concept of Operations: Build and maintain the single central ConOps that defines how distribution runs — channels, sequencing, dependencies, and who owns what.
  • Channel Strategy and Execution: Turn carrier and retail relationships into committed sell-in and real sell-through, from first conversation to units moving.
  • Cross-Functional Alignment: Pull input from carriers, engineering, product, and business teams into one plan, and keep those teams working against the same commitments.
  • Performance Review and Adaptation: Run a constant loop on data, results, and channel feedback, and change the plan the moment the numbers say it isn't working.
  • Launch Readiness: Make sure supply, pricing, positioning, and channel readiness line up before each launch milestone rather than after it.

Requirements

  • Hardware Distribution Experience: 6–10 years in commercial, channel, or distribution roles for physical consumer products, with direct ownership of a unit or revenue number.
  • Carrier or Major Retail Channels: You have negotiated and run distribution through carriers, large retailers, or comparable high-volume channels, and you know how those deals actually get executed after signing.
  • Operating Plan Ownership: You've built and maintained a central operating plan across multiple functions, and held the line on it under launch pressure.
  • Data-Driven Decision Making: You work from sell-in, sell-through, and channel performance data, and you can say what changed in the plan because of what the data showed.
  • Cross-Functional Influence: You get engineering, product, and business teams to commit to dates and deliverables without owning their headcount.

Bonus Qualifications

  • Experience launching a first-generation product in a new category, where there was no existing demand to pull from.
  • Background in carrier go-to-market: subsidy structures, activation economics, or retail floor programs.
  • International distribution experience beyond North America.
  • Familiarity with consumer AI or connected device categories.

About this role

Hark is building the next generation of AI hardware, and this role owns the critical path from prototype to market. As Commercial Manager, you'll drive the unit sales strategy and execution for the device's launch, serving as the central coordinator across carriers, retail, engineering, product, and business. You're not managing a team—you're holding a single Concept of Operations that everyone works from, and you're accountable for hitting the distribution target on the launch timeline. The work is concrete and measurable: turning carrier and retail relationships into committed orders, sequencing channel rollouts, ensuring supply and pricing align before each milestone, and constantly adapting the plan based on sell-in and sell-through data.

This demands 6–10 years of direct ownership over unit or revenue numbers in hardware distribution, with proven success negotiating and executing deals through carriers or major retail channels. You need to have built and maintained operating plans across multiple functions under launch pressure, and you need to be comfortable influencing engineering, product, and business teams to commit to dates without controlling their resources. The bonus qualifications—first-generation product launches, carrier go-to-market expertise, international distribution, or familiarity with consumer AI—would be valuable, but the core requirement is the ability to own a number end-to-end and rewrite the plan when the data demands it.

The role is full-time, in-office in San Jose, with a base salary range of $200,000–$400,000 depending on experience and background.
