About this role

Leading engineering operations at scale, this Director role puts you in charge of Talon. One's Product Engineering domain—roughly 13 cross-functional squads spanning dozens of engineers, architects, and managers. You'll manage up to 6 Senior Engineering Managers directly, oversee engineering architects and product engineers, and own the health, productivity, and measurable success of the entire organization. The work spans coaching and growing leadership talent, debugging both people and processes, staying ahead of industry shifts, and stepping in on critical firefighting when needed. You'll collaborate with Product Leadership to set annual goals and translate strategic direction into concrete engineering outcomes.

The role demands someone with substantial people leadership experience—specifically managing managers across multiple teams—paired with several years of hands-on engineering work and proven time in the SaaS space. You should have a track record of redesigning organizational structures thoughtfully, with real change management discipline. The ability to see the big picture and break it into achievable goals is essential. Talon. One's tech stack centers on Kubernetes and Google Cloud, PostgreSQL, Go for backend systems, and TypeScript/React for the frontend, though deep expertise in each isn't implied as a requirement.

Based in Berlin with in-office expectation, you'd join a 90+ person R&D department led by experienced leaders. The package includes 30 days annual leave, learning budget with free German courses, home office allowance, up to 90 days remote work globally, mental health support, and a dog-friendly office. This is a full-time, hands-on leadership position for someone ready to shape engineering culture and capability at a growing SaaS company.
