About this role
Whelen Aerospace Technologies is seeking a senior mechanical engineer to lead product development and enhancement work for aviation equipment. You would own projects from initial concept through testing and production support, working independently while collaborating across engineering disciplines—manufacturing, test, electrical, and quality assurance—to solve complex design and compliance challenges. The role demands hands-on expertise in mechanical design fundamentals, materials selection, and manufacturing processes including injection molding, die casting, and machining.
This position requires navigating the regulatory landscape of aviation, specifically DO-160 environmental standards and FAA certification under Parts 23, 25, 27, and 29. You would interface directly with FAA representatives and Designated Engineering Representatives during design reviews and certification activities. Strong proficiency with SolidWorks and AutoCAD is essential, along with experience in PDM/PLM systems. The ideal candidate holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering with 8+ years of experience, or a master's degree with 5–6 years of relevant work. You'll be based in Chester, Connecticut, working full-time on-site with standard business hours.
