About this role
BioMADE is launching a new Defense & Industrial Base Services business unit and seeking an executive leader to build it from the ground up. Reporting directly to the CEO, you would develop strategy, establish operations, and drive both revenue growth and mission impact for a unit designed to connect federal defense and industrial-base demand with bioindustrial solutions from BioMADE's member organizations. This is a founding leadership role with full accountability for organizational design, staffing, financial performance, and customer relationships across government and commercial sectors.
The work spans business development, program delivery, and ecosystem stewardship. You would identify and pursue federal contracting opportunities while building a pipeline of funded work, lead proposal and capture efforts, oversee project portfolio performance, and represent BioMADE to customers at senior levels. A significant part of the role involves working closely with BioMADE's Pilot Plant Network to help mature promising biotechnologies toward real-world manufacturing and adoption, while also strengthening the broader membership ecosystem through partnerships and workforce initiatives.
Experience serving federal or defense customers is strongly preferred, though BioMADE will consider leaders from other sectors who have successfully navigated complex customer environments, built credibility quickly, and generated funded work. Comfort operating in technically complex settings and the ability to work effectively across an industrial ecosystem are essential. The role is full-time, hybrid in Minneapolis, with a salary range of $275,000 to $425,000.
