The Platform Engineering team creates the foundation that enables the industry’s most innovative, high-performance, and highly available portfolio of Pure Storage products that are designed for the most demanding mission critical applications. We design, build and deliver hardware products, but over 90% of our engineering staff are software engineers. - Deliver manufacturing diagnostics and tools for Everpure Direct Flash Module product line
- Collaborate with hardware, firmware, software and manufacturing test teams, and deliver support for our ambitious roadmap items.
- Collaborate with product managers and engineering teams in getting requirements.
- Responsible for the overall development life cycle of the solution and managing projects.
- Instill best practices of software development and documentation, assure designs meet requirements and deliver high quality work on tight schedules.
- Clearly and regularly communicate status on how projects are progressing.
- Managing day-to-day software engineering development activities.
- Hiring, managing, monitoring and motivating software development team members.
- Driving innovation while at the same time managing software development schedules.
- Integrate software with existing systems.
- Driving company culture and career development to individual contributors.
WHAT YOU BRING
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science or equivalent.
- 3 plus years of technical lead or management experience, while staying hands-on in development
- 5 plus years of Linux kernel or protocol development experience in servers, networking or storage, ideally on x86 NUMA systems.
- 2+ years experience collaborating with remote teams based in the US or some other country.
- Experience in technologies and industry standards such as NVMe, NFS, iSCSI, Fiber Channel, SCSI, or protocols such as SMB,NFS.
- Experience in Agile development and continuous integration in development projects.
- Proficiency in C/C++ and scripting languages such as python/shell
- Working knowledge of Linux virtualization tools, or data path technologies such as DPDK
- Proven expertise in managing projects throughout the entire SDLC, delivering products to market on schedule, and ensuring feedback loops from customers into development
- Detail oriented, with experience in defining, partitioning, prioritizing software requirements across remote teams. Skilled in flushing out dependencies and roadblocks.
- Demonstrated skills of managing software innovation and meeting development deadlines in a product company.
- Data driven, with an ability to extract insights and make forecasts based on available information.
- Experienced in Agile and DevOps practices.

About this role
Pure Storage is seeking an Engineering Manager for its Kernel team to lead development of manufacturing diagnostics and tools for the Direct Flash Module product line. This role sits at the intersection of hardware and software, requiring someone who can bridge collaboration across hardware, firmware, software, and manufacturing test teams while staying hands-on in kernel and protocol development. You'll own the full development lifecycle—from gathering requirements with product managers to delivering high-quality solutions on tight schedules—while managing a software engineering team and driving both innovation and execution.
The ideal candidate brings at least three years of technical leadership experience combined with five-plus years working directly with Linux kernel or protocol development in storage, networking, or server environments. You'll need deep expertise in storage and networking technologies like NVMe, NFS, iSCSI, and Fiber Channel, strong proficiency in C/C++, and hands-on familiarity with Linux virtualization and data path technologies. Beyond technical chops, you should be comfortable managing remote teams across time zones, comfortable with Agile and DevOps practices, and skilled at extracting insights from data to make forecasts and decisions.
