About this role
Leading a small engineering pod at Riot Games means owning both the technical direction and the people behind League of Legends' alternate game modes. You'll split your time between hands-on coding—particularly UI and player-facing systems in C++—and the management work of mentoring engineers, shaping career growth, and collaborating across product, design, and art teams to modernize rotating modes. This role reports to a Senior Engineering Manager and operates from the Los Angeles office on a hybrid basis.
The position calls for someone with at least eight years of software engineering experience, including two or more years leading teams or tech leads in game development. You need deep C++ expertise and a proven ability to ship UI and gameplay features in games. The successful candidate balances hands-on development with leadership responsibilities, communicates clearly across disciplines, and brings genuine player empathy to decision-making. A Computer Science degree or equivalent is required.
Riot emphasizes work-life balance through unlimited PTO, flexible schedules, medical and dental coverage, parental leave, and 401k matching. The company's stated focus is putting players first, and they're looking for people who share that value and want to work collaboratively in service of it.
