About this role
Backpack Healthcare is seeking a PMHNP to deliver psychiatric care to children, teens, and young adults entirely through telehealth, with scheduling flexibility between part-time and full-time. You'll conduct evaluations, diagnose, prescribe and manage medications, and provide brief interventions—but crucially, you won't work in isolation. The role is embedded in an integrated team model where you collaborate regularly with therapists, psychiatrists, and care coordinators on cases, and families receive coordinated whole-person care rather than fragmented treatment.
The position requires afternoon, evening, and weekend availability to match when families can actually engage. Day-to-day work centers on evidence-based psychiatric assessment and treatment planning, medication management with ongoing monitoring, psychoeducation, and thorough documentation. You'll need an active, unrestricted Illinois PMHNP license, PMHNP-BC certification, an active DEA license, and a master's or doctoral degree from an accredited PMHNP program. Experience or genuine interest in working with youth and families is expected, as is comfort practicing independently in a telehealth setting.
Backpack offers competitive per-session pay, medical/dental/vision insurance, 401(k) matching, paid time off, and CEU reimbursement. Clinical supervision and mentorship are available—the company explicitly welcomes new graduates. If you're drawn to a clinician-led, minority-owned practice where integrated care is the operating model rather than an afterthought, and you want scheduling that accommodates your life while serving a population with real need, this role aligns with that priority.
