Cainhoy Veterinary Hospital is a hiring part-time Veterinary Assistants to work alongside our team of experienced veterinarians, skilled technicians, and devoted support staff to ensure each animal receives the best possible care during their stay with us. Salary: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour, determined by the candidate's skills, experience, and qualifications.
Schedule: Half day Monday, Wednesdays, Fridays and Alternating Saturday
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist veterinarians and vet techs during examinations, treatments, and surgeries
- Handle and restrain animals safely and compassionately
- Prepare examination rooms and surgical areas by cleaning and sterilizing equipment and surfaces
- Perform basic laboratory tests, such as collecting blood, urine, and stool samples
- Administer medications and vaccinations under the supervision of a veterinarian
- Feed, bathe, and exercise animals as needed
- Maintain accurate medical records
- Communicate with pet owners about their pets’ care, treatment plans, and follow-up visits
- Clean and maintain the clinic, including stocking supplies and ensuring a safe and sanitary environment
Qualifications:
- Previous experience working with animals in a veterinary setting is required.
- Technical know-how in areas such as disinfection, administering medication, and using diagnostic equipment.
- Physical ability to handle animals safely and compassionately.

About this role
Cainhoy Veterinary Hospital is seeking a part-time Veterinary Assistant to support its team in providing medical and surgical care for dogs and cats in the Charleston area. You'll work alongside veterinarians and technicians across a mix of shifts—half days on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, plus alternating Saturdays—at an hourly rate of $18 to $22 depending on your experience. The role involves hands-on clinical work: assisting during exams and surgeries, safely handling and restraining animals, preparing and sterilizing treatment areas, collecting lab samples, administering medications under veterinary supervision, and maintaining medical records. You'll also care for animals in the hospital and communicate with owners about their pets' treatment and follow-up needs.
This position requires prior veterinary experience and practical knowledge of disinfection, medication administration, and diagnostic equipment.
