About this role

Kairos Power is building a TRISO Fuels Facility to manufacture nuclear fuel for its advanced reactor technology, and this Process Engineer role is central to that effort. You would own the design and implementation of the chemical and physical processes that make fuel production work—from developing process flow diagrams and equipment specifications through commissioning and startup. The work spans the full lifecycle: early design phases in Albuquerque working with engineering and procurement teams, then transitioning to Gillette, Wyoming when construction begins to oversee installation, testing, and operational readiness on site.

This role demands 10+ years of process engineering experience in regulated industries like nuclear, pharmaceutical, chemical processing, or advanced manufacturing. You need to be fluent in standard deliverables—PFDs, P&IDs, heat and material balances, equipment datasheets—and comfortable coordinating across mechanical, electrical, controls, and facility disciplines. Hands-on experience commissioning industrial equipment, working with hazardous chemicals, and managing vendor procurement and factory acceptance testing are essential. Proficiency with tools like AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or process simulation software is required.

You should have a strong grasp of process fundamentals, utility systems, and how to translate technical requirements into operable, maintainable facility solutions. The role is field-intensive as the project matures, so comfort moving from design work to on-site troubleshooting and continuous improvement is important. Prior nuclear industry or fuel cycle experience is preferred but not required if your background is solid in comparable regulated manufacturing environments.
