Description
SpaceX was founded under the belief that a future where humanity is out exploring the stars is fundamentally more exciting than one where we are not. Today, SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of making life multiplanetary and expanding consciousness to the stars.
SpaceXSI is building Super Intelligence to help humanity understand the universe. Our teams are building the full Super Intelligence stack: from our Colossus supercomputers, to Grok models, to our suite of applications, including Grok Bot, Grok Build, Grok Imagine, Grok Voice, and X. We're creating a powerful flywheel where more compute trains better models, better models power more useful products, and what we learn from people using those products shapes what we build next.
ABOUT THE ROLE:
We are seeking a highly organized and technically skilled Energy Storage Asset Manager to own the performance, reliability, and maintenance of our Megapack energy storage fleet supporting SpaceXSI's AI infrastructure in Memphis. You will serve as the primary owner of day-to-day operations, service coordination with Tesla, and long-term asset optimization for one of the largest and most critical battery deployments powering AI training.
This is a full-time, onsite role based in Memphis, Tennessee.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Monitor the health and performance of the existing Megapack fleet in real time, tracking key metrics such as availability, energy throughput, efficiency, temperature, alarms, and state of health.
- Create and manage Tesla service tickets for technical issues, providing detailed logs, data, and documentation to enable fast and effective resolution.
- Act as the primary point of contact and liaison with Tesla Field Service technicians, offering onsite coordination to remove blockers, support efficient execution, and ensure high-quality, timely completion of work.
- Escalate critical or complex issues to Tesla support engineering or management when necessary, while actively driving resolution and minimizing downtime.
- Help control and optimize Megapack operations to best support SpaceXSI's power demands and AI infrastructure requirements.
- Own all maintenance activities for Megapack transformers, including identifying manufacturer-recommended schedules, coordinating with transformer manufacturers and contractors, and overseeing execution of preventive and corrective maintenance.
- Lead the design and placement of O&M infrastructure (access platforms, cooling, electrical tie-ins, fire protection, etc.) to ensure long-term serviceability and reliability.
- Schedule, coordinate, and oversee all preventive maintenance, firmware updates, and corrective repairs performed by Tesla.
- Perform site inspections, quality assurance checks, and post-maintenance validation to ensure work meets SpaceXSI standards and safety requirements.
- Analyze performance data to identify trends, degradation patterns, and optimization opportunities; collaborate with Tesla and internal SpaceXSI teams on improvements.
- Maintain comprehensive records of maintenance activities, service reports, downtime events, spare parts usage, and key performance metrics.
- Support the commissioning of new Megapack deployments and their integration with SpaceXSI facilities.
- Ensure full compliance with all safety protocols, Tesla procedures, manufacturer guidelines, and local regulations.
- Participate in root-cause analysis for incidents and contribute to continuous improvement of Megapack operations and maintenance strategies.
- Provide on-call support for urgent operational and maintenance issues as required.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Proven track record coordinating with OEM field service teams and managing vendor relationships in a mission-critical environment.
- Experience with maintenance planning, asset management, and regulatory compliance for high-voltage energy infrastructure.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills with the ability to drive issues to resolution under time pressure.
- Comfortable working onsite in an industrial/data center environment.

About this role
Xai is seeking an Energy Storage Asset Manager to oversee day-to-day operations of a large Tesla Megapack battery fleet powering AI infrastructure in Memphis. You'll own performance monitoring, coordinate all maintenance and service activities with Tesla technicians, manage vendor relationships, and serve as the primary point of contact for resolving technical issues. The role combines real-time fleet management—tracking availability, efficiency, and system health—with longer-term asset optimization, including transformer maintenance planning, O&M infrastructure design, and commissioning of new deployments. You'll also perform site inspections, maintain detailed records, analyze performance data for trends, and ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
This role demands strong organizational skills, vendor management experience in mission-critical environments, and a track record coordinating with OEM field service teams. You should be comfortable working onsite in industrial conditions, comfortable with high-voltage energy infrastructure, and able to prioritize and drive issues to resolution under pressure. Direct experience with Megapack systems, data center power infrastructure, or hyperscale energy management is preferred, as is familiarity with transformer maintenance and high-voltage electrical systems. The position requires on-call availability for urgent operational issues, flexibility to work evenings and weekends, and the physical ability to lift 25+ pounds and work at heights during inspections.
This is a hands-on role at a small, flat-structured organization where you'll own a critical piece of SpaceXAI's infrastructure. It suits someone who thrives on technical depth, takes initiative in problem-solving, and communicates clearly across teams—and who values working directly on mission-critical systems rather than in a traditional management hierarchy.
