The Netskope Data Security team is focused on providing unrivaled visibility and real-time data protection. Our products ensure that customers' data is protected wherever it lives. Our engineers design and deliver the next generation of highly scalable, effective, and high-performance data loss prevention solutions. We are looking for software engineers who are passionate about developing cutting-edge software in C++, Golang, and Python. As a Principal Engineer on the Netskope Data Security team, you will provide technical leadership and design and deliver highly effective, scalable, and high-performance software solutions for the next generation of content inspection and data protection.
What you will be doing
- Developing software in C++, C, Golang, and Python.
- Architecting, designing, and developing systems as part of the data security services offering.
- Providing technical leadership for complex projects and driving solutions across multiple components.
- Using ML models and advanced data structures and algorithms to solve challenging problems.
- Using AI tools to assist with designing, building, testing, debugging, and troubleshooting software.
- Delivering solutions that prevent loss of sensitive or confidential data through deep content inspection.
- Developing highly scalable and high-performance software solutions.
- Mentoring engineers and helping drive engineering best practices across the team.
Required skills and experience
- 12+ years of industry experience building high-performance, scalable, and secure dataplane services.
- Programming mastery of C++ with experience in Golang, Python, and C.
- Strong understanding of computer architecture, including multithreading, CPU scheduling, and memory management.
- Solid understanding of algorithms and data structures used in real-time inline data processing.
- Experience and knowledge of TCP, SSL/TLS, HTTP, SMTP, and REST services.
- Passion and hands-on experience developing data security solutions.
- Hands-on experience using AI-assisted engineering tools for designing, building, debugging, testing, and troubleshooting software.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills using debuggers such as gdb and tools such as Valgrind.
- Experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
- Experience developing and deploying software to GCP, AWS, or Azure.
- Experience with CI/CD using tools such as Drone, Jenkins, or similar technologies.
- Knowledge of and solid experience with Linux, Windows, and/or macOS.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to provide technical leadership, mentor engineers, and drive complex technical initiatives.
- Innovative and out-of-the-box thinking to solve challenging problems.
Education
- BSCS or equivalent required, MSCS or equivalent strongly preferred.

About this role
This Principal Engineer role on Netskope's Data Security team focuses on building next-generation data loss prevention solutions that inspect content and protect sensitive data at scale. You would architect and develop highly performant dataplane services using C++, Golang, Python, and C, working with advanced algorithms, ML models, and AI-assisted development tools. The position requires providing technical leadership across complex projects, mentoring engineers, and driving engineering best practices within a collaborative team environment.
The role demands 12+ years of experience building high-performance, scalable dataplane services with deep C++ expertise and solid knowledge of networking protocols (TCP, SSL/TLS, HTTP, SMTP, REST), computer architecture fundamentals, and real-time data processing. You should have hands-on experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes), cloud deployment on major platforms, CI/CD tooling, and proficiency across Linux, Windows, and macOS environments. Equally important are strong analytical troubleshooting skills, demonstrated ability to lead technical initiatives, and proven experience using AI-assisted engineering tools throughout the development lifecycle.
This is an in-office position based in Bengaluru and suits engineers who combine deep systems-level programming expertise with leadership capability and a genuine interest in data security problems. A BS in Computer Science is required; an MS is strongly preferred.
